There
are so many types of love but it is rare to find, and more importantly
experience, true love. That meeting of the other half of your soul and when it
is found, it can't be ignored or denied. That is the love story found here, one
that will continue to captivate the hearts of millions no matter how many times
or ways it is told. The story of two star-crossed lovers, the bad boy and the
good girl, the story of two people who should never have met, let alone been
able to fall in love. It is the story of General Hospital’s Jason Morgan and
Elizabeth Webber.
From the moment he saved her at Jake's, to the first kiss at Vista Point, to the
long overdue I love you's at the Overlook, their love was formed and bonded from
a friendship like none other. It was created out of mutual respect and kindness.
It evolved into more than friends, from their fierce protectiveness for each
other. No one could stop it, nor touch it. It was never about one needing the
other more or one giving of themselves more, it was an equal partnership. They
carried each other through some of the hardest times in their lives, through
both their losses and pain, and too many highs and lows to count. No matter what
life threw at them, at the end of the day, they knew they could count on each
other.
Jason Morgan is the son of Monica and Alan Quartermaine, who after a being
involved in a tragic drunk driving accident with his brother, AJ, awoke from a
coma with no memory of his former life. After weeks of fighting with his family,
Jason Quartermaine renounced his family and took the name of his paternal
Grandmother, Lila Morgan Quartermaine, to become Jason Morgan. He went to work
for Sonny Corinthos as a mob enforcer, which is where we find him today.
Elizabeth Webber the is daughter of Jeff Webber and granddaughter of Audrey and
Steve Hardy. She came to Port Charles from Colorado when she was a troubled teen
when her parents decided to go abroad to work for Doctors Without Borders,
effectively abandoning their youngest child. They have never come to visit in
the twelve years Elizabeth has resided in Port Charles.
Our tale begins just over a decade ago in a small seedy bar called Jake's. Bad
girl turned good, Elizabeth Webber was still grieving the loss of her first
love, Lucky Spencer. Because she was forced to do so in secret, she had had
enough and decided she wanted to feel something again and decided to do
something drastic, so she ended up at Jake's. It didn’t take long for the male
patrons to notice the beautiful young girl in the dive, leading one to make
rough, unwanted advances. Although she had known who he was prior to that
evening through her friend Emily, it was then that Jason Morgan stepped into her
life, playing the part of hero for the first time, and permanently secured a
place in her heart. They sat and talked for hours, two people who both felt lost
and alone in the world and simply needed someone who understood. This is where
their connection began.
Months later, it was Elizabeth’s turn to play the part of hero when she came
across Jason lying in the snow, bleeding from a gunshot wound. Completely
disregarding his orders to leave him alone, she brought him back to her art
studio and nursed him back to health, defying her friends and family in her
adamant refusal to abandon him. During this time, their friendship blossomed
into something more, something greater, their connection deepened and it is one
they share to this day.
It would seem, however, that time was not on their side, as her first love was
found alive after Jason had left town. Upon his return, Elizabeth was torn
between the two men in her life, constantly running to Jason for help her in
making sense of her life, but unwilling to let Lucky go and the obligation she
felt to be with him because he came back to her. Jason left town again, needing
to find himself and figure out what he wanted to do with his life, but as usual,
upon his return, he and Elizabeth picked up their friendship much as if he had
never left.
Unfortunately, their 'more than friendship' did not go unnoticed by Jason's
enemies. They had finally found a weakness in Jason Morgan’s tough exterior.
Elizabeth was kidnapped and held in a crypt as a way to get to Jason. Jason,
realizing how much Elizabeth meant to him, vowed to do anything to find her,
even going so far as asking the two men he loathed, his grandfather, Edward
Quartermaine, and Detective Taggert of the PCPD, to aid him in his search. He
finally found Elizabeth and rescued her, along with Zander Smith, from the crypt
moments before it exploded, literally shielding her with his own body.
Shortly after that Elizabeth and Zander moved into the penthouse with Jason for
protection from his enemies, giving the young couple a chance to finally talk
about their feelings. Things went well for a short while until she discovered
that he had lied to her about Sonny faking his death. Feeling hurt and betrayed,
she broke off the relationship.
Although there was a brief period where Jason tried to work things out with
Elizabeth, life seemed to get in the way for the pair. Eventually both moved on
with other people, trying to fill the void left after the breakup. Elizabeth
married Ric Lansing, who eventually almost killed her and did other horrendous
things to garner a place in Jason's heart as mortal enemy, and Jason married
Courtney Matthews, who could not accept Jason's life even though she was Sonny's
sister. And yet, even through all the relationships, the disagreements, and time
in-between, nothing could destroy their friendship. They were still there for
one another when needed, as shown by their unconditional support for each
another during Emily's cancer scare. Finally, Elizabeth, who was pregnant by
Zander Smith after an evening of comforting one another when both thought their
marriages where over, left town for a short while to have her son Cameron Steven
Webber. Upon her return, she and Jason resumed their talks for hours on the
docks and continued to help each other by just listening when they needed
someone.
While Elizabeth was married to Lucky Spencer, a psychotic killer by the name of
Manny Ruiz was on the loose. Manny was an enemy of Jason's and was wanted by the
police. He took Elizabeth at gun point in when she thwarted an attempt on Skye
Quartermaine and used her in his attempt to escape capture. Lucky rushed to
rescue her but was hurt in the process and it was Jason who saved her life once
again in the end.
Lucky became addicted to the pain pills prescribed after his injury and began to
act erratically. He began an affair with a young Maxie Jones, so she would
continue to give him the pills he ‘needed.’ After silently catching them
together again, and in their bed no less, Elizabeth didn’t really know where to
go. Eventually she ended up on the doorstep of her friend, Jason Morgan. He too
was reeling from going to reconcile with Sam and seeing her in the arms of
another man, his mortal enemy and her own step-father, Ric Lansing. Elizabeth
and Jason talked for a long time about the feelings they had always shared, the
connection that had always had a strange pull over them, and how no matter the
circumstance, they were never able to stay on opposite sides very long. They
comforted each other by giving into the feelings they had denied for so long.
That night they not only healed one another, but they conceived their son, Jacob
Martin Webber.
Elizabeth immediately told Jason of her pregnancy and the possibility that the
child could be his. However, being fearful of her husband’s actions even after
checking into rehab, she kept the paternity test and her one night spent with
the man she loved a secret from Lucky. Upon receiving the results of the
paternity test, she went to tell Jason that he was the father, but Carly had
gotten to him first and erroneously told him that the baby belonged to Lucky.
Although Jason was hurt, he told Elizabeth it was for the best that Lucky, her
husband that she was trying to work things out with, was the father. While she
wanted to correct him, she couldn't once Sam McCall, Jason's girlfriend that he
too was trying to work things out with, entered the penthouse and thus Elizabeth
left. She was convinced Jason would be happier with Sam and the baby would be
safer growing up as Lucky’s son and away from the mob.
But, fate had a different plan. Elizabeth, along with many others, was taken
hostage in the Metro-Court Hotel by maniac Mr. Craig. During the ordeal,
Elizabeth was cramping from the strain and stress of the situation. Jason,
realizing what had happened at the hotel and realizing how many people he cared
about were involved, decided he had to do something and with the help of Damian
Spinelli slipped in unnoticed, disguised as one of the evil doers. When the time
came, he instinctively pulled Elizabeth to safety in a nearby elevator just as
the building erupted with gun shots and explosions all around them. Thinking
those were their last moments, Elizabeth revealed the truth about the baby she
carried, that Jason was the father. After a moment of shock and then admitting
how he had been hurt when he thought the baby was not his, Jason, wanting to do
right by his child, proposed to Elizabeth. She admitted that it would be a dream
come true, but they were both in relationships and decided that marriage simply
for the sake of the baby was not the answer. After talking more, they decided
that they would tell those they were with about the baby, but circumstances
beyond their control prevented that from happening. After the crisis, Jason's
father, Alan, died and as Jason said goodbye to the man he'd rebuffed so many
times, he admitted his immediate love for his child and how sorry he was to have
pushed away his and Monica's love for him.
The duo remained close friends but the pain of the situation was evident in
every encounter. They loved one another and the baby they had created, but felt
tied to the significant others in their lives. The pain and heartbreak was so
easy to see on their faces at every meeting that even Jason's sister, and
Elizabeth's best friend, Emily, suspected something was between the two. One
night during a horrible storm, all the power across town was out and Jason
decided to check on Elizabeth who was very close to her delivery date.
Fortunately for her and their child, he did as he found her layed out across the
floor by the door, unconscious and bleeding. He rushed her to the hospital,
knowing every moment counted for his son and the woman he loved.
Jason watched helplessly as his son was born and Elizabeth fought for her life.
Once they were both stable, Elizabeth and the baby were moved to their own
room. As Elizabeth woke to see Jason holding their son and talking to him, it
was the perfect moment. Their bond, already welded tight, became cemented even
more so in the blue eyes of their son. Elizabeth was able to give Jason the one
thing he always wanted and never truly expected to have. Jacob Martin is the
best part of them, the purest form of their love.
Unfortunately the happiness inspired by their son soon turned to tragedy as
months later baby Jake was kidnapped while in the park with Elizabeth and
Cameron. Jason was being held for murder, awaiting trial, and yet he was still
the one to offer her the unwavering support she needed, not her husband Lucky.
With the entire police force out looking for their baby and turning up nothing,
it wasn’t until Jason was released on bail, that baby Jake was found and
returned to his mother, allowing him once more to place their son into his
mother’s loving arms. Yet again, the touching family moment was shattered all
too soon when Lucky re-arrested Jason for breaking the conditions of his bail
while rescuing baby Jake.
After the trial was over and Jason was acquitted, Liz and Jason sought each
other out more, unable to fully deny their feelings for one another. Finally
Jason decided to declare his son and his love for Elizabeth, but again it would
not be the happy moment either of them had hoped. As Liz was herself on her way
to declare her love to Jason and discuss being a family, she and the boys were
accosted in the park. She called Jason to meet her at their special place, the
Overlook, where upon his arrival he declared for the first time his love to her.
Jason's admission only caused them both more pain once she explained to him what
had just happened in the park with her two small children. Once again, through
tear filled eyes, they agreed the danger was too real, and that they could not
be together.
After the sudden and tragic death of his sister and her best friend, Emily, the
couple realized that life is too short to let fear rule. They began to have a
secret love affair, stealing away time together in a safehouse as often as they
could. Their love continued to grow stronger and Jason was ready to let the
world know about their family. He asked Liz to marry him which she eagerly
accepted. However, their bliss was short lived. Mere moments later Jason was
once again reminded of the danger in his life when young Michael Corinthos Jr.
was shot. Jason vowed that he wouldn't put his son in the same danger that he
had been a part of putting Michael in and distanced himself from Elizabeth, Jake
and Cameron.
Over the next few months, Jason withdrew from everyone close to him, certain
that it was safer for everyone if he was not in their lives. However the pain of
seeing Liz and her boys around Port Charles was always evident whenever they
crossed paths. Liz did her best to be supportive of his decision but after a
series of dangers having nothing to do with Jason's life occurred in her life,
she eventually realized again that life isn't safe and neither is love. She
decided to fight to convince him the danger had not stopped her love for him
over the years and it could not; that she still wanted a life with him and
their family. Jason admitted that he loved and would rather be alone if he could
not be with her and their son. He then explained that he could not handle it if
anything were to happen to her or her boys because of him and they continued to
be apart.
Months went by and then baby Jake was kidnapped yet again when the loving couple
was beginning to work their way back to one another, only solidifying in their
minds that, while their love for one another has never wavered, it will remain
unrequited for the sake of the children and Liz's safety. Jason remains too
afraid to lose her and the boys and Liz agrees that the boys must come before
their love for one another. If all else perished, their love would still remain.
It's in their honest words, their longing eyes and their mannerisms. Their
passion and want is so deeply rooted, yet they try to contain it. Jason and
Elizabeth try to avoid what everyone else can feel when they are in the same
room. And all their efforts are for naught, for the illusion of safety because
in truth, they are never more safe or stronger, than when they are together. It
is a realization they have yet to find....a story that has not begun. For it can
have no ending without a beginning and they have yet to begin their life
together.
Jason, Elizabeth and family, ten years and counting....never giving up.
